City of Johannesburg MMC for Human Settlements, Anthea Leitch, to Conduct Walkthrough Inspection of Abel Street Phase 2 Project

Today, the 24th of May, the City of Johannesburg’s MMC for Human Settlements, Anthea Leitch, will together with the leadership team from JOSHCO embarked on an oversight visit at the Abel Street Phase 2 Project. This inspection aims to evaluate the project’s readiness for occupancy.

Abel Street Phase 2 is a modern 12-story building located in Berea, in the Johannesburg CBD. It is specifically designed to accommodate individuals who are new to the job market, including recent graduates, people who are self-employed and anyone looking to enjoy urban living in the heart of the city.

The project comprises a total of 155 residential units, including 144 bachelor units and 11 one-bedroom units. Rental prices for these units range from R900 to R1650, making them an affordable option for young professionals and new graduates. The building features several amenities to ensure residents’ comfort and safety, including 24-hour CCTV surveillance, group parking facilities, fire extinguishers, biometric access for tenant security, and two operational elevators. Additionally, the bedrooms are equipped with modern built-in walk-in closets and flexible windows.

This project represents a significant step forward in the City of Johannesburg’s commitment to providing affordable housing solutions and improving the quality of life for inner-city residents. Abel Street Project aims to
